Spoiled suman downs 11

-
Eleven people were taken yesterday to the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital (formerly Tala Leprosarium) in Caloocan City for suspected food poisoning after ingesting spoiled suman given away by a neighbor last Thursday night.

A two-year-old boy, taken to the hospital together with the victims, died later, but doctors said his death was not due to food poisoning.

Dr. Fatima Dasalla, attending physician, said that although the boy, identified as Giancario Aquino, had also partaken of the native delicacy, he reportedly succumbed to pneumonia.

The boy was already nursing a high fever days before he was taken to the hospital yesterday.

The victims, all related, said they began experiencing severe stomach pains and nausea minutes after eating the suman. — Jerry Botial
