Arson suspect nabbed

-
Anti-arson operatives of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) nabbed yesterday the principal suspect in the Black Saturday fire that killed a lawyer, his wife and two daughters in Lagro, Quezon City.

Fire Inspector Romeo Pepito, chief of the National Capital Region Arson Investigation Division, said Ryan Cadiao was arrested along a highway in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, almost a month after he allegedly set their house on fire.

The suspect was last seen running away from their house, minutes after the fire broke out last March 26.

His father Raymond, mother Charito and sisters Charina and Charlene were trapped in the burning house.

Pepito said arson investigators recovered from the house an LPG tank and an electric grill, which was used as timing device.

"The suspect refuses to cooperate with investigators, we are still determining the motive for the crime," he said.

Fire officials said they are finalizing the filing of arson charges against the suspect before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s office. – Perseus Echeminada
