Malabon trader accuses port cop of extortion
April 11, 2005 | 12:00am
Agents of the Northern-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (Norther-CIDG) arrested on Friday a port policeman in Manilas North Harbor, following a complaint from a Malabon City businessman that the suspect has been extorting money from him to expedite his application at the Philippine Ports Authority to be a provider of security guards to the Port Complex.
Suspect Eduardo Bose, 51, a harbor police with a rank of first lieutenant, was nabbed by Northern-CIDG agents led by its newly designated field commander, Chief Inspector Benjamin Acorda Jr.
The CIDG operatives, accompanied by complainant Robert Meguila, went to Pier 4 at the North Harbor Complex at around 7 p.m.
Bose was collared after he received the P2,000 marked money from Meguila, an officer of High Profile Security Agency with offices located at 49 Pampano st., Barangay Longos, Malabon City.
In exchange for his services, Bose allegedly asked Meguila P1,500 as payment to expedite the contract approval.
But after several follow-ups, Bose just kept on promising and asking Meguila for more cash but nothing is heard about his firms contract application.
Feed up of the suspects promises, Meguila sought the help of the CIDG operatives which led to the arrest of the suspect. Interviewed in his detention cell, Bose, who claimed to be working at the Port Complex for the past 20 years, refused to answer queries regarding Meguilas accusations. Pete Laude
