2 motorcycle thieves arrested

Two members of the "Nognog Carnapping group" were nabbed by intelligence operatives for robbing an Indian national of his cash and motorcycle the other night in Valenzuela City.

Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr., District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU) chief, identified the suspects as Christopher Orillaza alias "Onyx" and Marlon Caneso alias "Jojo Bunga," both 30 years old, members of the Sigue-Sigue-Sputnik gang, residents of Pampano street, Barangay Longos, Malabon City.

The suspects were positively identified at the police station by their victim, Krishnan Kewal, a resident of Barangay Balubaran in Valenzuela City, as the persons who waylaid him on March 5 this year.

Recovered from the suspects were a stolen red Honda Wave motorcycle (BH-2812) worth some P52,000 owned by the victim and P2,000 in cash. Another motorcycle, (UL-5247) was recovered.

Ramos said the suspects were under close surveillance by his men since Ruel Caldona alias "Nognog," acknowledged leader of the notorious group, and two of his cohorts were captured in Aug. 21 last year.

Case tracking conducted revealed that at about 9 a.m. of March 5, the suspects robbed Kewal of his motorcycle and his earnings for the day at gunpoint.

Cases for robbery and car theft have been filed against Orillaza and Caneso before the Valenzuela Prosecutor’s Office, who recommended bail amounting to P100,000 and P180,000, respectively, for their temporary liberty. — Jerry Botial, Pete Laude
