The city government hopes to generate 3,000 gallons of potable water daily through the help of a private firm specializing in water treatment.
Solerex Environmental Systems (SES) will set up its equipment in a creek area located along President Avenue in BF Homes. Groundwork for the installation of the pilot unit for a water reclamation and recycling system will start soon following the approval of residents of upscale subdivisions.
Bernabe said the pilot test of this water reclamation and recycling project will not cost the city government a single cent.
"Right now, there are still waterless communities in the city whose residents have to buy water from ambulant tankers for their domestic and drinking needs," he said.
"If the SES system works, it could be the solution to Parañaque’s need for sources of potable water," he said.
According to Bernabe, a number of subdivisions and villages have long suffered from chronic water shortage. He added that Maynilad Water Inc. did not entirely solve the problem when it was granted the concession by the Metropolitan Water Works and Sewerage Systems (MWSS) to be the water service provider for Western Metro Manila.
SES president Jose Antonio Soler assured Bernabe that their water treatment methods work and the company will be able to provide quality water for Parañaque City.
Residents and officials of two major subdivisions have agreed to be the initial beneficiaries of the project set to begin within a few weeks. — Michael Punongbayan
