Echiverri orders crime mapping

- Jerry Botial -
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri yesterday ordered the local police force to conduct crime mapping operations to effectively prevent and efficiently solve crime incidents in the city.

The operations will cover the areas under the jurisdiction of the city’s five sub-stations and 18 community precincts. The mayor said he wanted the local officials and the police under Senior Superintendent Leo Garra, city police chief, to determine which crimes frequently happen in their particular areas. He believes that identifying which crimes commonly occur in their areas of responsibility, the police will be well aware where and how to marshal resources and focus their efforts in preventing and solving which particular crimes.

Echiverri said that through crime mapping, authorities will be able to see when most of the crimes are happening and who are the usual victims. The police can also readily identify the suspects and their hiding places, making it easier for law enforcers to run after the criminals.

Echiverri gave orders to Garra to tally the crimes committed, including the time and place where the crime took place and give him a report regularly so that the city government can draft a plan to curb the same incidents.

"Bibigyang atensyon pa rin siyempre ng mga pulis ang pagbabantay sa iba’t-ibang krimen ngunit mas magpopokus sila sa mga krimeng karaniwang nagaganap sa kanilang hurisdiksyon,"
he said.
