A 49-year-old bank manager was killed yesterday morning in a vehicular accident at the South Luzon Expressway in Makati City.
Ivanhoe Sandoval, a branch manager of the United Coconut Planters Bank and resident of La Loma, Quezon City, was on the northbound lane of the Skyway when his Honda CRV (WBD-985) rammed the central concrete barrier at the off ramp at around 9:10 a.m.
Prober SPO4 Oscar Alicando Jr. said Sandoval sustained severe head and chest injuries as he was pinned inside the vehicle.
He was rushed by responding barangay watchmen to the Makati Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival.
Investigators could not say what caused the incident.
"Di naman siya amoy alak at wala naman sira yung makina ng sasakyan bago mangyari yung aksidente," Alicando said in an interview.
Alicando said they would be conducting a thorough check on the vehicle.
He advised motorists traveling on expressways to be extra careful in driving during the rain and to always observe the speed limit.
Actor Ricardo Cepeda was hurt after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car the other night along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.
Senior Police Officer 4 Marcelo Sabado, of the Central Police District-Traffic Sector 3, said Cepeda, who is Ricardo Go in real life, was riding his motorcycle when it was sideswiped at around 7:40 p.m. Monday in front of the Ateneo de Manila University on Katipunan Avenue in Loyola Heights.
No one was able to take down the license plate of the vehicle that hit the actor, who is married to actress Snooky Serna.
Sabado said it was another showbusiness couple Ronnie and Mariz Ricketts, owners of a nearby restaurant, who brought Cepeda to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Cepeda sustained a contusion and injuries to his arm, police said. Edu Punay, Katherine Adraneda
