8 Navotas barangays declared drug-free

At least eight of Navotas’ 14 barangays are now declared drug-free.

Records at the Navotas police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) showed that the drug-free barangays are Bagumbayan North, Bagumbayan South, Navotas East, San Rafael Village, Tanza, San Jose, and Bangkulasi.

Meanwhile, the six barangays that are still in the SDEU watch list are Sipac, North Bay Boulevard North, North Bay Boulevard South, Daanghari, Tangos and San Roque.

The SDEU records also revealed that from January to June this year, a total of 115 drug offenders were apprehended. Of this number, nine were pushers, 36 were users, and 70 were caught for illegal possession of prohibited drugs.

All the arrested suspects were charged in court.

The illegal substances which were seized from the offenders were shabu, marijuana, and rugby, the most common stuff used even by street urchins as it can be easily acquired.

The Navotas police, in coordination with barangay officials of those still in their drug watch list, are working harder to also release their respective villages from the menace of illegal drugs. — Pete Laude
