Philippine STAR publisher Max V. Soliven and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando are the guests of honor in the inauguration of the Meralco Avenue flyover today.
Fernando is the representative of President Arroyo while Soliven represents the business and media sector.
The flyover traverses the Meralco Avenue and Julia Vargas Avenue intersection.
In a phone interview, Fernando told The STAR that the flyover "reduces the number of vehicles on the ground level."
The flyover is the brainchild of the Pasig City government, led by then mayor, Soledad Eusebio.
She was succeeded by her husband, Vicente Eusebio, in the last elections.
The four-lane flyover is built over the six-lane Meralco Avenue.
According to Fernando, the city governments study on traffic showed that the flyover is a solution to the heavy traffic in the area.
"They feel thats the best solution to that. It might be a good model to guide us in future (traffic) decisions," Fernando said. Nikko Dizon
