Guard hurt in hammer attack

A 29-year-old hammer-wielding man was arrested by patrolling operatives of the Central Police District (CPD) after attacking a bank security guard and stealing his service firearm in Quezon City early yesterday morning.

Superintendent Jose Mario Meneses Espino, chief of CPD-Station 2 in Baler, identified the suspect as Juanito Ching Jr., a resident of Saint Michael street in Malaria, Caloocan City.

Investigation disclosed that Ching attacked the security guard in an attempt to take his firearm at around 3:15 a.m. last Friday in front of a Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. branch located along Quezon Avenue, which was being manned by Edralin Bayamban, 24, of Catmon, Malabon.

According to PO2 Eric Rano, officer-on-case, Bayamban was at his post when Ching suddenly appeared and attacked him. The guard was hit in the head with a hammer.

Ching then took Bayamban’s service firearm, a .38 caliber revolver, and fled.

However, CPD-Station 2 operatives, led by Chief Inspector David de Leon Allauigan, PO2 Rolando Daduya, and PO1 Allan Fortea, PO1 Victor Porte and PO1 Michael Badiang, who were conducting a roving-patrol in the area, spotted the fleeing suspect.

The policemen approached Ching and subsequently arrested him. They found the guard’s firearm in his possession.
