MMDA, QC gov’t to decongest Cubao

To improve traffic flow in Cubao, Quezon City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) would implement a re-routing project along EDSA in cooperation with the local government of Quezon City.

Under the new traffic scheme, public utility jeepneys plying the Quiapo-Cubao route would no longer be allowed to cross EDSA.

Executive Director Angelito Vergel de Dios, MMDA-Traffic Operations Center (TOC) chief, explained that drivers plying the said route should turn left to F. Manalo Street, then turn right to Monte de Piedad Street and finally exit at E. Rodriguez Avenue.

"We conducted a dry-run last Friday and we were satisfied with the outcome," Vergel de Dios said.

The MMDA also revived its sidewalk clearing operations in Cubao but Vergel de Dios clarified that this was upon the request of the city government "because permits of vendors expired last June 30." — Evelyn Macairan
