Simple rites for Villar
July 2, 2004 | 12:00am
Re-elected Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar took her oath at her residence before Las Piñas Executive Judge Joselito Vivandor in simple ceremonies witnessed by family, friends and supporters.
Villar had wanted her oath-taking to be a perfect example of austerity amidst the economic and political crisis plaguing the country and the Filipino people.
"This is the time to make a point. Tama na sa akin na simple lang ang okasyong ito. What matters are the things that I would be able to do for my constituents," Villar said.
Her better half, Sen. Manny Villar was at her side when she took her oath before leaving for Cebu to attend the inaugural of President Arroyo and Vice President Noli de Castro last Wednesday.
Villar won overwhelmingly over her political rival in the May 10 polls. Political pundits said her excellent performance as a public servant and as a vocal and active member of the 12th Congress made it easier for the lady lawmaker to seal her re-election bid with a landslide victory.
Villar was elected as president of the Lady Legislators of the 12th Congress and played a pivotal role in the enactment into law of some breakthrough measures on the welfare of the family, women and youth sectors.
As a public servant, she poured in countless infrastructure projects to her district including her "Patubig Program" that saw the construction of over 100 motorized deepwells; road and building construction, sports development program; pro-environment projects such as the Sagip-Ilog Project and Pagtatanim para sa Kinabukasan, among others.
Villar now has her hands full with other worthy projects such as the construction of overpasses with escalators and the construction of the Las Piñas fishport.
