Pasay fire leaves 300 families homeless

- Edu Punay -
Some 300 families were left homeless in a three-hour fire that hit a residential area in Pasay City yesterday.

The fire, which started at 2:30 a.m., razed 100 houses at the interior of Barangay 165 along E. Rodriguez Extension corner Apelo Cruz street. No one was reported hurt.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Mario Sebastian said that even with 31 responding firetrucks, it took them until 5:30 a.m. to completely put off the fire because of the narrow alleys in the area.

He said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but there were reports that drug addicts had been burned clothes after having a pot session.

Affected residents near the Tripa de Galena Creek are temporarily housed at a vacant lot near the barangay hall.

City welfare official Cora Tabay said they have started with relief operations yesterday morning.

Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad has donated groceries to each of the families affected by the fire.

Tabay said city councilors and the Philippine National Red Cross have also made donations to the victims
