Preacher found dead

Mystery surrounded the slaying of a 48-year-old "born again" preacher who was found dead from a stab wound inside her residence in Tondo, Manila the other night.

Police said the lifeless body of Amalia Galleno, a widow, was discovered by a concerned neighbor in the sala of her rented apartment at 1323 Interior 14 corner Quricada and Yakal streets.

Beside the body was her adopted daughter’s nine-month-old baby, who was spared from harm by her still unidentified assailant.

The victim’s neighbor became curious after the widow failed to come out of her residence the entire day. The concerned neighbor then took a peek inside the house and saw the victim lying in a pool of blood.

It was the live-in partner of her adopted daughter who entered the apartment through the second floor window after being informed of the widow’s fate. The door at the ground floor was locked from the inside.

Probers said that except for a stab wound in the neck, no other visible signs of injury was noted on the victim. The baby had no external physical injuries. Ocular inspection of the house showed that furniture and the victim’s belongings were intact. The victim’s telephone was off the hook.

The victim had been living alone in her apartment after her 18-year-old adopted daughter Charesse Anne began living with one Richard Felizidario several houses away.

The victim, who had been widowed for seven years, had been taking care of the couple’s nine-month-old baby during her spare time from preaching.

Richard told police that prior to the discovery of the victim’s body, he requested one Allan Maliwanag to bring the baby to the victim’s residence.

Police are now tracking down the whereabouts of Maliwanag so he can shed light on the slaying. – Nestor Etolle
