Jealousy drove a drunk policeman to shoot the former lover of his girlfriend during a chance encounter Sunday in Mandaluyong City.
But luck was on the side of victim Sherwin Evangelista, 29, an employee of Mandaluyong City Hall, as four bullets from the rookie cops gun failed to find their mark.
Suspect PO1 Antonio Madlangbayan, of the local police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force(AID-SOT), was ordered disarmed and placed under the custody of Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Mandaluyong City police chief.
"I will see to it that he will be made answerable to the crime he has committed," Velasquez said.
Reports reaching the police chief showed that Madlangbayan was in the company of his girlfriend when they chanced upon Evangelista along Martinez street in Barangay Pleasant Hills at about 4 p.m. last Sunday.
Because they knew each other, the cops girlfriend and Evangelista exchanged greetings, which angered the intoxicated Madlangbayan.
Witnesses said Madlangbayan confronted Evangelista and a heated exchange of words ensued.
It was at this juncture that the cop pulled out his service firearm and opened fire four times in the direction of the victim,
The girlfriend eventually pacified Madlangbayan.
Velasquez ordered the filing of frustrated homicide charges against Madlangbayan. Non Alquitran
