Club patron shot dead by phone thief

A 28-year-old man was shot and killed by a robber as he was talking to his girlfriend on a cell phone outside a bar in Parañaque City Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Marlon Tolentino, a driver from Antipolo, Rizal, had just stepped out of the White Bird Club along Roxas Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m. when an unidentified suspect held him up.

According to police, Tolentino resisted, which prompted the suspect to shoot him once, using an unknown type of handgun, in the left chest.

Southern Police District-Scene of the Crime Operatives head Chief Inspector Jose Ronnie Forro said the suspect then fled toward the direction of the Coastal Road on board a blue Kawasaki Enduro-type motorcycle. He escaped with the victim’s cell phone.

The victim’s girlfriend, who was still on the other end of the line while the robbery was being committed, said she later tried asking for the help of her cousin, whom she knew was at a club near the scene. – Edu Punay
