Fresnedi wins third term in Muntinlupa

Incumbent Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi has gotten a fresh mandate from his constituents in the May 10 elections.

Following a landslide victory, Fresnedi has been proclaimed winner in the mayoralty race yesterday, a few hours after election officials ruled over protests raised by his closest rival, Elizabeth Masangkay.

In the final tally, which was finished at 3 a.m. yesterday, Fresnedi got 82,184 votes as against Masangkay’s 61,280. But the proclamation was held only after six hours because of the protest filed by Masangkay’s camp.

"This is a privilege given to us by the people. It is now our responsibility to provide them with better services," Fresnedi said during the proclamation.

Plunder charges were filed against Fresnedi, the Lakas-CMD (Christian Muslim Democrats) bet in Muntinlupa, but these did not dissuade the people from handing over to him a third term.

His runningmate, Jo Jayson Alcaraz, however, did not make it as opposition bet Aldrin San Pedro led the mayoralty race with 93,261 votes. Alcaraz got only 64,708 votes.

Meanwhile, Muntinlupa Rep. Rozanno Rufino Biazon, son of senatorial candidate Rodolfo Biazon, has also won a fresh mandate against his rival, Patricio Boncayao. Biazon got 93,261 votes while Boncayao got only 64,708.

Independent candidate Rene Carl Cayetano, brother of K-4 senatorial bet Pia Cayetano, finished at the top of the race for councilors in the second district with 45,349 votes.

The other winning councilors in the second district were: Elmer Espeleta, Francis Bagatsing, Marissa Rongavilla, Lucio Constantino, Mamerto Sevilla Jr., Joselito Arevalo and Marion Bulay Jr.

In the first district, Raul Corro garnered the highest number of votes among the candidates for councilor. His co-winners include: Baldomero Niefes, Allan Rey Camilon, Luisa Echavez, Melchor Tevez, Allen Ampaya, Kevin Delgado and Icasiano Dela Rea.

Most of the winning councilors were from the administration party.
