JV takes San Juan

San Juan re-electionist Mayor Jose Victor Ejercito led eastern Metro Manila incumbent mayors who hacked out easy victories against their opponents in the local polls.

Ejercito, Maria Lourdes Fernando of Marikina City and Benjamin Abalos Jr. of Mandaluyong City maintained almost insurmountable leads against their political foes.

Ejercito was set to be proclaimed at 10 p.m. yesterday at the San Juan municipal gymnasium.

Partial returns from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed Ejercito, a son of former President Joseph Estrada by actress Guia Gomez, garnering 41,258 votes against the 8,631 of his rival Erick San Juan.

In the vice mayoralty race, Ejercito’s runningmate Leonardo Celles garnered 18,385 votes against former basketball star Philip Cezar’s 17,460 votes.

For the town’s lone congressional seat, incumbent Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, an independent, received a total of 26,689 votes against 20,587 for Ericson Alcovendaz, of the National People’s Coalition (NPC).

In Mandaluyong City, Abalos, who is running for the city’s lone congressional district, registered 78,374 votes as against his perennial political foe Ernesto Domingo’s 35,589.

In the mayoral race, Rep. Neptali Gonzales recieved 79,345 votes while his closest rival Angie Domingo got 32,171 votes.

For the city’s vice mayoralty race, Jess Cruz received 66,230 votes while his opponent Avelino Beado got 46,565 votes.

In Marikina City, Fernando had 55,897 votes against actor Sonny Parson’s 18,283 votes. Vice Mayor Marino Andres had a 24,058 vote margin against Rudy Francisco. In the congressional race, incumbent Rep. Del de Guzman has 39,845 votes against 35,798 votes for Romeo Candazo.

In Pasig City, comebacking former Mayor Vicente Eusebio has 43,057 votes while his wedding godson, Rep. Henry Lanot has 41,596.

In the city’s congressional race, Dodot Jaworski leads with 28,714 votes with Roman Romulo receiving 20,747 votes, Toti Carino with 20,102 and Lorna Bernardo with 19,713 votes.
