Las Piñas poll leaders thank supporters

Imelda Aguilar, wife of incumbent Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar thanked her constituents yesterday for giving her their trust and support.

Based on the copy of certificate of votes from the Commission on Elections, the unofficial and partial count as of yesterday showed Aguilar garnering 169,858 as against the 2,078 votes of her closest rival Leo Enciso.

Las Piñas has a total of 1,536 clustered precincts with 56 percent of the more than 300,000 registered voters participating in the elections.

Her runningmate Louie Bustamante for vice mayoralty position also enjoyed a wide margin over his opponents. All 12 candidates for city councilors from District 1 and 2 also won convincingly, she said.

"I would like to thank our people from the bottom of my heart for giving me overwhelming support in the just concluded elections," Aguilar said.

She added that her promise to pursue and continue the development and progress initiated by her husband as capsulated by her campaign slogan "Tuloy-tuloy ang Progreso" will be fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Cynthia Villar is also almost assured of a new term in Congress as she leads by 146,000 votes over her rival in Las Piñas City.

Based on partial canvassing, Villar is in for a landslide victory with 158,441 votes compared to congressional bet Roel Pulido’s 12,388 votes.

The figures represent 90 percent of the total votes cast in Las Piñas.

This early, the lady solon is taking her hat off to the people of Las Piñas for giving her a fresh mandate that will enable her to continue her programs of government for the lone district of Las Piñas.

"I don’t want to jump the gun this early, but I would like to thank my people for believing in me. I am thankful and humbled by this electoral exercise," Villar said.
