Widow caught with 3 kilos of marijuana

- Nestor Etolle -
Police arrested a 55-year-old widow after being caught with three kilos of high-grade marijuana along a railroad track in Sta. Mesa, Manila the other day.

Sta. Mesa police station chief Superintendent Efren Perez said the arrest of Teresita Orsal, of 241 Anonas street, Sta. Mesa, was made possible when a confirmed drug dependent squealed and tagged her as the source of illegal drugs in Sta. Mesa district.

Perez added Orsal is the alleged supplier of marijuana among students and drug addicts in the University Belt.

First to be arrested for possession of illegal drugs was Larry Calindez, a 19-year-old Sta. Mesa resident. During police interrogation, he revealed that a cache of high-grade marijuana would be delivered to Orsal at an undisclosed area along the Sta. Mesa railroad tracks.

Perez tasked Senior Inspector Wilfredo Abordo to conduct a stakeout in the mentioned area. At about 7 p.m. last Tuesday, police operatives spotted Orsal carrying a large traveling bag. When Orsal spotted the police operatives, she immediately scampered, but the policemen gave chase which ended near the entrance of her residence.

Policemen recovered three bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves and a plastic pack of loose marijuana leaves inside Orsal’s bag. Abordo said the three kilos of high-grade marijuana leaves has a street value of more than P4,000.

Perez noted that most drug dependents have now shifted to marijuana due to scarcity of shabu following successive police raids on shabu warehouses.

Orsal, who is currently being interrogated to determine her source of marijuana, was charged with possession of illegal drugs.
