Business leaders have teamed up with more than a thousand doctors, lawyers and other professionals to embark on an ambitious project to make the Sampaloc district in the city the cyber capital of the country.
The professionals, all scholars of former Manila Mayor Ramon Bagatsing, heeded the call of the mayors businessman-son Manuel "Nonong" Bagatsing to pull their talents and resources in making the poor residents of Sampaloc not only computer-literate but also equipped with means of livelihood.
They will meet on March 20 at the old Bagatsing residence at 954 Kundiman street, Sampaloc, considered as the political bailiwick of the Bagatsing clan.
Nonong, who is running for congressman of Sampaloc, said the countrys top 100 corporations including giant food and beverage firm San Miguel Corp. have agreed to donate their personal computers and other electronic gadgets to the project.
"We have the expertise and resources to repair and maintain these donated computers," said Bagatsing.
