QC Comelec district offices get new service vehicles

-
The Quezon City government turned over yesterday four brand new Toyota Revo vans to be used by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) district offices in the city.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. personally handed over the keys to election officers Flor de Gian (District 1), Lea Alarcon (District 2), Rhodora Aquino (District 3), and Evelyn Bautista (District 4), at the city hall grounds.

"The city government want to help election officers perform their jobs effectively," Belmonte said.

The mayor said the vehicles will remain the property of the city government under the custody of the Comelec.

The turnover of service vehicles to the poll body is in accordance with provisions of the Local Government Code that allows local governments to provide logistical support to Comelec offices in their locality.

"The city government is allowed to provide service vehicles to Comelec officers," Alarcon told The STAR.

Last Monday, Belmonte also distributed 52 multicabs to public elementary and high schools all over the city. The Central Police District and the 142 barangays have also been provided with service vehicles.

Belmonte said the purchase of vehicles was made possible by the availability of funds in the coffers of the city government.

"As long as we have the money, we can always provide the necessary assistance to government agencies for the effective delivery of basic services to the people," Belmonte said. — Perseus Echeminada
