Mayoralty bet tops youth survey

-
The young congressman of the first district of Valenzuela City has topped a recent conducted survey among the aspirants for the mayoralty post in Valenzuela City in the coming election.

In a data released by Bureau of Research and Youth Analysis Group, Rep. Sherwin "Win" Gatchalian received 32 percent while Rita Carlos, the wife of incumbent Mayor Bobbit Carlos, received 14 percent and Rep. Magtanggol Gunigundo placed third with nine percent.

The 1,200 respondents were asked who will they vote for should the election for mayor takes place this week.

Gatchalian, who graduated from Boston University in Massachussetts and a consistent Dean’s Lister, is the youngest member of House of Representatives at the age of 29.

As an experienced manager in family corporations, Gatchalian was able to impart his technical know-how by launching a series of orientation on small-scale entrepreneurship.

Despite his being neophyte solon, Gatchalian was able to co-author landmark bills such as Republic Act 9189, or the Overseas Absentee Voting Act and Republic Act 9182, also known as the Special Purpose Vehicle Act.

In eyeing the mayoralty post, Gatchalian said that he is tapping his brother Rex to be the congressional candidate for his district "because I know my brother can deliver a well-meaning leadership for the city."

Rex Gatchalian, 24, is a cum laude and political science graduate of Georgetown Washington University in Washington DC.
