Cops intensify checkpoints

In enhancing the security measures within Metro Manila, Metro police chief Director Ricardo de Leon ordered yesterday intensified checkpoints and chokepoints here in the metropolis.

De Leon ordered the intensified conduct of checkpoints and chokepoints, particularly on men riding on motorcycles as he instructed the directors of the five police districts here in Metro Manila to be on the alert and as much as possible prevent the commission of crimes not only major crimes but petty crimes as well.

"It can be noted that the petty crime of snatching and robbery as well as theft of motorcycles and scooters are very rampant here in the metropolis," De Leon said.

Reports reaching the Office of the Regional Director show that there are at least 10 motorcycle units stolen from Jan. 14 up to this date in various parts of the metropolis.

"Aside from being stolen, these motorcycles are being used by the suspects in robbery, snatching, and as get-way vehicles after staging holdups. Usually these suspects are all armed with hand guns," De Leon said.

De Leon likewise ordered the chief of the Regional Investigation and Intelligence Division (RIID) of the National Capital Regional Police Office to intensify counter-intelligence operations in monitoring movements of these criminals.
