However, the construction may be dangerous to motorists and individuals passing through the area as no warning or traffic signs are posted in the construction site.
Just recently, a female reporter fell into a digging while on her way out of the EDSA gate from the PNP Press Corps office. Reporter Mary Ann de Chavez of Imbestigador, said she did not notice the digging which was about three to four-feet deep because there were no warning signs or lights in the area. She suffered minor injuries on both legs.
Base commander Senior Superintendent Geary Barias and PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Joel Goltiao merely shrugged off the incident, saying that the failure to set up lights at the construction site at night is the fault of the contractor.
Meanwhile, retired police general Guillermo Domondon, chairman of the Association of the Chiefs of Police of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPPI), said the construction of the new gates is a waste of money. He said the PNP needs money for more important concerns such as the budget for the recruitment of new police personnel. Christina Mendez
