President Arroyo has given her assurance that 160,000 families in Metro Manila will have potable water supply on or before Jan. 20.
Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye noted that since the end of 2003, the President has been personally following up on the provision of potable water to "waterless" communities in Metro Manila, numbering about 300.
Bunye said that this is part of the Presidents focus on doable projects such as extending credit to small and medium enterprises and implementing various health programs.
"There are about 160,000 families in Metro Manila that has no supply of clean water until now. This is one of the major necessities and the President is working to provide them with clean water on or before Jan. 20," he said.
Last week, the President personally visted the San Andres Bukid area in Manila to oversee the "Patubig" project as part of her goal to provide clean water supply to the 300 communities.
The President has also decided to focus on developing small and medium enterprises by providing capital to small business owners.
"Extending credit to small and medium enterprises is one of the effective ways of plowing back the capital and advancing the economy," Bunye said.
