Widow shoots abusive neighbor over videoke in Malabon

- Pete Laude -
Police are hot on the trail of a 29-year-old widow for allegedly shooting and critically wounding an abusive neighbor Friday night in Malabon City.

Police identified the suspect as Josephine Ortega, of 215 Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangay Catmon.

At around 6 p.m., victim Alfonso Dionio, 42, reportedly under the influence of liquor, went to the house of Ortega to belt a few songs using his neighbor’s videoke machine.

Dionio, however, became irritated after the videoke gave him a failing score for one of his songs. He then hit the machine with a hard object.

Ortega asked Dionio to stop hitting the videoke machine, but instead of stopping the victim shouted invictives at her.

A heated argument ensued between the two. Ortega later got hold of a handgun and allegedly shot the victim in the stomach.

Dionio’s wife, Raquel, who witnessed the incident, rushed her husband to the Tondo Medical Center for treatment.

Ortega escaped during the commotion bringing with her the handgun of still unknown caliber.

Meanwhile, Shiela Butawan, 38, was stabbed dead by her live-in partner Jose Morilla, 49, after a heated argument at around 9 p.m. Friday.

The victim’s neighbors at 7th street, 7th Avenue, Barangay 121 in Grace Park, Caloocan City, told police that they heard the victim and the suspect having a verbal tussle about their financial problem.

Moments later they heard Butawan shouting for help. When they came to Butawan’s aid they saw her bloodied with several stab wounds in different parts of the body.

The suspect reportedly tried to commit suicide by also stabbing himself in the chest.

Butawan’s neighbors rushed her to the Manila Central University (MCU) hospital for treatment but she later died. Morilla is now confined at the Jose Reyes Hospital.

In Manila, police arrested two men linked to the killing of a political coordinator of Manila Councilor Kim Atienza inside a billiard hall in Sta. Ana, Manila an hour before New Year’s Day.

Arrested were Pancho Nagbuya, 52, of Road 16, Sta. Ana, Manila and Isaac Baltazar, 22, of Augusto Francisco street, Sta. Ana, Manila. They were among those present when Noel Vivas was gunned down.

Apart from Vivas, another victim, Editha Tumana, was also killed after she was hit by a stray bullet while Viva was being shot.

Investigator SPO2 Steve Casimiro said Nagbuya and Baltazar were not the gunmen. "Nakibugbog lang sila kay Vivas bago ng barilan."

Vivas was playing billiards at his commercial billiard hall on Eloriaga, Sta. Ana, Manila with the gunmen, when a heated argument erupted. Vivas is the owner of the billiard hall.

At the height of the argument, the gunmen, armed with caliber .45 and 9mm pistols, shot the victim.

With the help of a witness, Casimiro said police would be able to identify the gunmen, who are regulars at the billiard hall. With Cecille Suerte Felipe, Nestor Etolle
