Wanted: Tourist killers

Police released yesterday the cartographic sketches of robbers who shot dead a Taiwanese tourist during a jeepney holdup in Malate, Manila on Thursday.

Senior Inspector Alejandro Yanquiling, chief of the Western Police District-Homicide Section, said the robbers were identified by their alleged cohorts as the ones who shot dead Wen Hua Yang.

Yanquiling identified the two as Mark Guiller Samson, about 23 to 24 years old, 5’6" to 5’7" in height and a resident of Anak Bayan, San Andres; and a certain Jojo, who is about 24 to 25 years old, with dark complexion and about 5’2" to 5’3 in height.

Yanquiling said Yang’s assailants were identified by their alleged cohorts — Dominador Reyes, 32, and Jaizon Cubos, 18, who were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies in Malate.

Yanquiling, who was with his operatives SPO2 Henry Aguila, SPO2 Rodel Rego, SPO2 Mar Tabora, SPO2 Mel Javalla and SPO2 Maying de la Cruz, ran after the fleeing robbers, who were cornered on Taft Avenue.

The suspects told probers Guiller and Jojo usually "operate" from Arquiza street to Quirino Avenue, victimizing passengers in jeepneys.

"These robbers usually carry with them backpacks to hide their guns," Yanquiling said.

Yang and his companion Shang Chi Cang, 23, were on board a passenger jeepney when robbers pretending to be passengers, announced a heist.

After giving their wristwatch and bracelets to the robbers, the two foreigners jumped from the moving vehicle but one of the robbers shot Yang. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
