President Arroyo personally offered her condolences last Friday night to former Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago for the death of her son.
Mrs. Arroyo paid her last respects at the wake of Archie Santiago at the Green Meadows Memorial Chapel.
There was no talk about politics between the President and the opposition leader who is reportedly set to run again for the Senate in the coming elections.
Mrs. Arroyo and Mrs. Santiago had been colleagues at the Senate.
Through Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye, Mrs. Arroyo extended over Radio Mindanao Network yesterday the official codolences to the family of the former senator whose son committed suicide.
"We would like to extend our sympathies to former Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and her family in their hour of grief," Bunye said. Marichu Villanueva
