Alvarez accuser readies charges

- Evelyn Macairan -
A 26-year-old businessman yesterday said he will file adultery charges against his American wife and her alleged lover, former basketball player Paul Alvarez, early next week and file additional charges of attempted homicide and grave threats against his spouse.

Jorge Alfredo Lopez III arrived at the Makati City Police Station yesterday afternoon to submit supporting documents in the filing of charges against his wife Sarah Jane Devendof-Lopez, 23, a part-time model, and Alvarez before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.

In a complaint filed the other day, Lopez claimed he and his friends caught his wife and Alvarez naked inside the bedroom of their Makati home earlier in the day.

Lopez submitted copies of his marriage certificate and the original copy of his friend’s medical certificate to Senior Police Officer 2 Aurelia Go, chief of the Women and Children Concerns Unit. He claimed his friend, Bernard Robles, sustained a wound on the left arm after her wife allegedly went after them with a knife.

The only piece of evidence needed before a case can be filed is the validation of the plate number (XKY-288) on a silver Honda CRV, said to belong to Alvarez.

"I have written a letter of request to the Land Transportation Office to check on the car’s plate number and the case officer has been going to different LTO offices. However, when she checked the plate number, it belonged to an Isuzu Crosswind and not a CRV," Go said.

Lopez said he is now meeting with a prominent lawyer, whom he hopes would take on his case. He intends to take custody of his children Alyssa, 4, and Brandon, 3, and hopes that the court would also grant his plea.

He has also appealed to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to declare his wife "unfit as a mother" because she took the children away from their home, and drove recklessly with them on board when they left the house last Thursday.

He claimed his wife called him up on his cellular phone last Thursday afternoon asking him not to file a case.

Lopez also refuted reports that it was a certain Bong Aragon who drove Alvarez’s car to bring his wife to their house at 28 Homonhon street, Barangay Magallanes.

"I know Bong Aragon. He owns Delirium Agency, which supplies bouncers to establishments. Sa kanya ako kumukuha ng bouncer. He does not look like Alvarez," Lopez said.

He also denied reports that he has been separated from his wife for six months now.

Lopez also claimed a friend saw his wife and Alvarez in Boracay from Oct. 2 to 5.

"They were seen on two occasions and were holding hands. My wife told me that she was going to Boracay for a photo shoot," he said.

He also denied allegations that out of anger, he destroyed Alvarez’s car while it was parked outside his house. "How could I have done that? There were police officers and barangay security personnel outside my house. They would have witnessed it."
