QC tax man remits P29-M in one day

It was like winning the lotto jackpot for the Quezon City government when a local tax collector remitted P29.4 million in taxes last Wednesday.

Aside from the astounding single day collection, Edgar Villanueva, local treasury operation officer, has also delivered some P13 million to the city treasury in the last four months, making him the top tax producer in the city government’s campaign to collect tax deficiencies. His tax collection from June to Oct. 1 totalled P42.7 million.

His unprecedented feat as a collector did not pass unnoticed as no less than Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. promoted him on the spot to supervising revenue examiner.

"It was a pleasant surprise. I am happy that my efforts has been recognized by Mayor Belmonte," Villanueva told The STAR after his promotion.

Dr. Victor Endriga, city treasurer, said the spot promotion will serve as an incentive to all deserving and hard working employees of the city government.

Endriga said the city is on track to retain its position as the richest city in the country.

The city government has collected a total P5.4 billion revenue last year and at present it has a surplus and savings of P3 billion.
