Five killed in vehicular accident along Litex Road

- Pia Lee-Brago -
Five persons were killed while six others were injured when a dump truck and a tricycle smashed into a shanty along Litex Road in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Three of the fatalities were identified as Gina Gonzalgo, 30, of 679 Waterhole St., Bgy. Commonwealth, Quezon City; Noel Tizon, a tricycle driver; and Rachelle Cenen, 25, of Bansalangin St., Payatas, Quezon City. Two other victims remain unidentified.

Gonzalgo, Cenen and Tizon and one of the two still unidentified victims died instantly due to severe head and body injuries. The fifth victim, identified only as Ms. X, was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC).

Injured in the vehicular accident were Crisandro Ramirez, 4; Christian Ramirez, 2; John Pagaban, 32; all of Malakas St., Area B, Payatas, Quezon City. They are now confined at the FEU Hospital in Fairview.

Also injured were Gonzalgo’s one-year-old son Arit, Cristina Subito, 10, a resident of 691 Litex Road and Jovit Barcialle.

The driver of the dump truck, Rodrigo Babiera, 46, an employee of the Quezon City Hall Environmental Protection and Waste Management Office, voluntarily surrendered to the police.

Police Officer 3 Venus Ormita, officer-on-case, of the Central Police District-Traffic Sector 5, said the incident took place at around 10:30 a.m. along Litex Road.

Babiera told the police that he was on his way to the Payatas dumpsite in Quezon City when he suddenly lost control of the truck’s steering wheel.

The dump truck, which was loaded with rocks, crashed into the tricycle. Because of the strong impact, both the dump truck and the tricycle smashed into a shanty.
