Las Piñas residents urged to cooperate in waste management

-
Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel "Nene" Aguilar urged residents of villages and subdivisions to cooperate and help the city government in its waste management drive by properly disposing their garbage.

"The city government is doing its best to collect the garbage regularly, but it is important for people to cooperate in keeping the environment and community clean," Aguilar said.

He asked residents to put their garbage in trash bags and garbage bins until dump trucks can collect them.

He also told the people to realize the importance and urgency of recycling by segregating the wet, dry and plastic garbage and the practice of composting, in anticipation of the lack of a dump, which the entire Metro Manila experiences from time to time.

Aguilar also urged his constituents to understand the delay in the collection of garbage by the city government’s own compactor trucks due to problems with the dumping site and bad weather condition.

Las Piñas operates its own compactor trucks and open dump trucks for its zero-waste management. It also mobilized 1,000 volunteers who help in the cleanliness and greening drive of the city government organized by Mrs. Imelda Aguilar, first lady and chairperson of the city’s Clean and Green Council.

About 600 to 700 cubic meters of garbage are collected everyday in the city’s 20 barangays and commercial and industrial establishments. If recycling and composting in every household and busienss establishment will be adopted, Aguilar said, garbage collection and disposal will not be a problem in the city for the next five years.

The city wad adjudged as Metro Manila’s cleanest and greenest and UN awardee for environmental protection.
