1,500 Las Piñas families now landowners

-
About 1,500 landless families in Barangay CAA in Las Piñas City are now new landowners after Mayor Vergel Aguilar awarded to them some 11 hectares of land acquired by the city government from the Air Transport Office.

Aguilar said these families are living in San Antonio Compound, Malakas, Pagkakaisa, Receiver, Kamalig, Palawan Bicol, Samar, Luzviminda, Bohol and Mindoro streets or the Phase 3B of the area.

He added the remaining families in four areas: Phase 3A, 3C, 1 and 2, will be the next batch of beneficiaries as soon as all the requirements are met and completed by them.

Aguilar also said most of the beneficiaries are living in the said area for more than 10 years now. The acquisition of land is part of the city government’s project dubbed as "Marangal na Tahanan at Mamayanan" in cooperation with the office of Congresswoman Cynthia Villar, Aguilar added.

The project is aimed to improve the living conditions of less privilege residents and develop local communities into subdivision-like areas with basic services conducive to decent living.

The project, according to Mayor Aguilar, involves 52 and 62 hectares of government land under the administration of Air Transportation Office (ATO) being declared as alienable or open for disposition to the actual occupants under Presidential Proclamation No. 427.

Aguilar added, the city government will also shoulder the development cost of the area such as the construction of alleys, roads and streets, construction of drainage systems, construction of deep-well, construction of day-care and health centers, multi-purpose halls, basketball courts and children’s playgrounds.

Today an estimated 40,000 economically-disadvantaged families have benefited from the program.
