Encounter between cops, robbery gang leaves one dead

-
One person was killed after operatives of the Central Police District Command (CPDC) and its District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU) encountered a group of suspected robbers late afternoon Tuesday in Quezon City.

The unidentified male suspect-victim was described by police as between 30 to 35 years old, about 5’8" tall, with fair complexion, medium build, and sporting a crew-cut.

The fatality was wearing a yellow T-shirt and maong pants, and has a tattoo on his right shoulder.

Reports reaching the Central Police District-Criminal Investigation Unit showed that the incident happened about 4:40 p.m. in front of 26 Interior BF Road, Barangay Holy Spirit.

According to the investigator, the operatives of the CPDC and DPIU, led by Senior Police Officer 1 Hector De Veyra were conducting a follow-up operation against a gang of robbers at the time when they spotted the group in the area.

As the police offiers approached them, the suspects allegedly opened fire at them, prompting lawmen to retaliate.

When police hit one of the suspects, his companions quickly scampered in different directions. They managed to elude arrest.

The suspect who was hit was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center, but was declared on arrival by an attending physician.

Police recovered a caliber .38 revolver Smith & Wesson from the slain suspect.

Police, however, have not identified as to which group the suspect belonged or in what incident the alleged group of robbers were involved. Katherine Adraneda
