Deportation drives man to suicide

Reportedly depressed over his deportation from the US, a 28-year-old man hanged himself inside their Makati City home.

The body of Jerome Aricheta, of Santiago street, Barrios Poblacion, was discovered by his father, Alejandro Jacinto, at around 4:45 a.m., police records showed.

Aricheta was found with a galvanized wire around his neck. The other end of the wire was tied to the railing of the stairs.

Jacinto, 50, told police he was about to prepare breakfast when he discovered the body.

Upon investigation, Jacinto told police that his adopted son plunged into depression after he was deported from the US. It was not mentioned why Aricheta was deported.

Aricheta was said to have resorted to illegal drugs and was confined to the National Mental Health Institute twice for treatment of his depression.

In Quezon City, a nine-year-old boy from the Gana Compound in Balintawak died yesterday morning after days of being confined at the Manila Central University hospital. He died of asphyxia by hanging.

According to reports reaching the Central Police District, the boy was found hanging with a leather belt around his neck by his cousin last Aug. 9. Nikko Dizon, Katherine Adraneda
