3 dead in QC stabbing attack

- Pete Laude -
A father and his two sons, including a two-year-old, were found dead inside their home in Quezon City, where they were repeatedly stabbed by an intruder before dawn yesterday.

Police identified the victims as Gil Mabulac Sr., 38, a truck driver, and his boys, Gil Jr., 2, and Chris Paul, 10, residents of NPC Compound, Ambuclao street in Barangay Baesa Mendez. The eldest child, Giljean, 13, survived the carnage and is now undergoing treatment for stab wounds at the Quezon City General Hospital.

Police prober PO1 Romel Megino of Central Police District-Criminal Investigation Unit said that at about 1:45 a.m., someone barged into the victims’ house. The father and his kids were asleep when the intruder attacked them with a bladed weapon.

"They were stabbed one after the other," Megino said.

Megino said neighbors rushed to the scene after they heard the daughter’s cries for help. They also heard her shouting the name "Edwin."

Edwin Abalos, said to be a close relative of the victims, surrendered to authorities yesterday but vehemently denied involvement in the massacre, Chief Inspector Roger Yalung, CIU legal officer, said.

"Our investigation is still open. Edwin is only one of the suspects," Yalung said.

According to probers, a message written on the wall of the victims’ house pointed to Abalos as the main suspect.

"There was a message on the wall, written in crayons, saying it was Abalos who attacked the victims. But we are still investigating this," Megino said.

CIU operatives are also looking into reports that Mabulac’s wife, Gina, who has been separated from her husband and the children for several months now, was having an affair with the suspect.
