He just couldn’t stand the noise

- Katherine Adraneda -
A 59-year-old doctor, who couldn’t stand the noise being made by a tenant of his apartment building in Quezon City, was arrested the other night for shooting dead one man and seriously wounding two others.

Suspect Arthur Lopez, 69, of Iriga street in Barangay San Isidro Labrador, La Loma, was brought to jail after shooting his tenant Jedan Macana, 23, and his visitors Carlo Magno Elampano, 31, and Oscar Vicente Cua, 21. Elamparo died before reaching the St. Teresita Hospital after sustaining multiple gunshots wounds in various parts of the body. Macana and Cua are receiving treatment at the UST Hospital and Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital, respectively.

Police Officer 2 Joseph Dino said that at around 8:30 p.m. last Monday, Lopez, an anesthesiologist went down to the unit occupied by Macana, apparently bothered by the noise and racket the trio were making.

Minutes later, Lopez opened fire at the victims, using his caliber .45 handgun.

Neighbors immediately called the police, resulting to the arrest of the suspect.

Witnesses claimed Lopez has a bad habit of brandishing his gun each time he gets into a dispute with someone.

At the police station, Lopez said he fired his gun as an act of self defense. He did not elaborate, refusing to issue any further statement.
