Taxi driver survives holdup

A taxi driver survived a holdup by two men who stabbed him and slit his throat in Quezon City the other night.

Victim Salito Bayet, driver of an EFE taxi and resident of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, is now confined at the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Initial investigation disclosed that at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, two men flagged down the taxi, an Isuzu Hi-Lander (PXD-232) on the North Diversion Road in Tabang, Guiguinto, Bulacan. The suspects then ordered the driver to proceed to Cubao.

Upon reaching Philam Homes along EDSA an hour later, the suspects declared the holdup and divested Bayer’s earnings of P1,000.

Before leaving the victim, however, the suspects, one of whom was identified as Homer Holaton, 21, of Bocaue, Bulacan, stabbed Bayer in the chest and slit his throat.

This caused Bayer to lose control of the steering wheel causing the vehicle to turn-turtle.

At this point, the suspects tried to escape through the window. Holaton was spotted by bystanders who subdued him. His cohort, a certain Nelson, managed to flee with the cash.

During interrogation, investigators learned that Holaton has a pending warrant of arrest for victimizing last November one Lourdes Salvosa, whose husband is the secretary of Senator Aquilino Pimentel. – Katherine Adraneda
