Belmonte to lead Independence Day rites in QC

-
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. will lead city, police and barangay officials and members of the judiciary during the city’s commemoration of the 105th Philippine Independence Day tomorrow at the QC Hall Plaza, marking the first time the city will be celebrating its own Independence Day festivity.

About 10,000 participants are expected to join the city’s Independence Day celebration, which has the theme, "Bayan Ko, Sagot Ko."

In his Independence Day message, the Mayor is expected to outline what the city government has achieved so far in fulfilling the vision of a quality city.

The city government has lined up several activities to make the celebration more colorful and meaningful. Notable among these will be the flag-raising ceremony at 7 a.m. and the civic and military parade, barangays, the city’s teaching force, boys and girls scouts and non-governmental organizations.

Vehicles and equipment turned over to the city police, fire department, barangays, the department of public order and safety and environmental protection and waste management department will also be paraded to showcase the city government’s continuing effort in making Quezon City as a quality city.

The vehicles that will be paraded include brand new CPD mobile cars and motorcycle units, fire trucks and ambulances, motorcycle units for the city’s traffic enforcers, SB multi-cabs for the barangays and dump truck and heavy equipment for the engineering and waste management departments.

A traffic re-routing scheme has been prepared by the city government to ensure the orderly movement of vehicles during the parade. At least four lanes of the eight-lane Elliptical Road will be used for the parade.

With the partial closure of the Elliptical Road on June 12, the department of public order and safety has advised motorists coming from East Avenue and bound for Commonwealth Avenue to turn right on Matalino street and exit on Kalayaan Avenue to avoid heavy traffic buildup while those coming from Agham Road are advised to take V. Luna Road and turn left on Kalayaan Avenue before proceeding to Commonwealth Avenue.

At least 50 traffic enforcers from the department of public order and safety and the Metro Manila Development Authority and the Traffic Enforcement Group will be deployed as early as 6 a.m. to ensure the smooth flow of traffic for the duration of the program.

Regular work operations at City Hall will resume at 10:30 a.m.
