Pyramid scam victim commits suicide

A 47-year-old small-time trader, who reportedly fell prey to a pyramiding scam, committed suicide before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City.

Victim Isagani Reyes, of 374 Rajah Soliman street, Caloocan City, was found hanging dead with a car seatbelt looped around his neck at around 12:10 a.m. by his wife Maria Arlene, police said.

Mrs. Reyes, police said, went out of their room to look for her husband and was surprised to see the victim’s lifeless body dangling at the dirty kitchen of their house.

Mrs. Reyes told police that her husband was in a gloomy mood the past few days after losing a big amount of money to a pyramiding scam.

Police said Mrs. Reyes, however, did not give specific details on how her husband fell victim to the con men.

Senior Inspector Domingo Alminiana of the Northern Police District—Scene of the Crime Office (NPD-SOCO), brought the victim’s body to the Dulce Funeral Homes for autopsy to determine there was no foul play involved. –Pete Laude
