The National Food Authority in the National Capital Region has sold a total of 552,492 bags of rice amounting to P411,104,619 from its launching in February to the second week of May.
NFA Administrator Arthur Yap reported that for the past week alone, May 8-15, the NFA-NRC has sold 2,871 bags of rice worth P2,153,250 through its 392 Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke. BGP outlets are located inside public markets nationwide selling NFA rice at P16 per kilogram.
In Metro Manila, BGP outlets can be found in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela in the north district; Manila, Quezon City and San Juan in the central district; Morong, Angono, Teresa, pasig, Pililla, Antipolo, Baras, Tanay, Cardona, Marikina, Taytay, Binangonan, San Mateo, Cainta, Montalban and Jala-Jala in the east district; Pasay, Las Piñas, Taguig, Makati, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, and Pateros in the south district; Imus, Dasmariñas, Silang, Cavite City, Trece Martires, Indang, Mendez, Tagaytay, Kawit, Tanza, Carmona, Noveleta and GMA in the Cavite provincial office.
"We want to continue selling affordable rice to the less fortunate through these BGP outlets. Since most of these intended beneficiaries are not able to buy rice from our rolling stores which ply their assigned routes, we are in the process of eventually replacing the Tindahan ni Gloria Labandera rolling stores (TGL-RS) with the Bigasan outlets which they can patronize at their convenience," Yap said.
There are 392 BGP outlets scattered strategically in various public markets in the NCR and a total of 4,026 outlets all over the country, Yap said.
