The search for Outstanding Manileños is an annual undertaking of the city government which seeks to give recognition to men and women whose achievement in their chosen profession or vocation have contributed extraordinarily and invaluably to the development of Manila.
Nomination for Outstanding Manileños may be made by any person, group or organization for any of the following categories: Business and Industry; Education; Journalism; Law; Public/ Government Service; Science and Technology; Historical/ Cultural Advocacy; Humanitarian Service; Sports Advocacy/ Leadership; Arts and Culture; Broadcast Leadership; Civil Finance/Entrepreneurial Leadership; Statesmanship/Diplomacy; Engineering/Construction; Medicine; and other fields.
Aside from proof of their outstanding achievement and contribution to the development of the city, nominees should satisfy any of the following criteria in order to qualify: Born and residing in Manila; born in Manila, although no longer a resident and registered voter of Manila; and not born/resident of Manila but has brought the city honors, prestige and benefits and has tremendously contributed towards the development of the city.
The awards criteria and the numerical equivalence are as follows: Service to the City of Manila and/or the nation (55 points); outstanding performance in their respective fields (25 points); proven leadership, including moral rectitude, probity, innovativeness and pioneering spirit (15 points); and other qualities (five points).
Those chosen by the screening committee as this years Outstanding Manileños have to be personally present to accept their awards during the awarding ceremony. Failure to appear in person would mean forfeiture of their award.
The deadline for submission of nominations is on May 30, 2003. Nominations must be submitted on or before the deadline to The Committee Secretariat at the Office of the City Personnel Office, 2nd Floor, Room 218, Manila City Hall.
