Two members of the Philippine National Police-Traffic Management Group (PNP-TMG) were shot and injured by suspected car thieves along EDSA in Makati City yesterday.
SPO4 Leonardo Timtiman, officer-in-charge of the Makati police Homicide Division reported that the incident took place at around 1:45 p.m. along the northbound lane of EDSA corner Senator Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
The TMG personnel on board a patrol car spotted a blue Mitsubishi Adventure van with fake license plates (WMU-502) and pulled over beside the vehicle before directing the driver to stop.
As both vehicles pulled over to the side of the road, one of the vans passengers, armed with an M-16 Armalite rifle opened fire on the TMG personnel.
PO1 Edgardo Porcionculla, 38, a member of the TMG was shot once in the buttocks while PO1 Allan Eneria took two hits in the left side of his body and right arm.
Porcionculla and Eneria were brought to the Makati Medical Center and the Dr. Victor Potenciano Medical Center in Mandaluyong City, respectively. Both officers were declared in stable condition.
The TMG personnel were unable to determine the actual number of passengers on board the van, which was later found abandoned along Harvard street in Barangay Pinagkaisahan, Makati City.
A similar shootout between the TMG and suspected car thieves took place almost three weeks ago in Parañaque City which resulted in the death of two suspects.
