‘Friendship’ passes out in Las Piñas

-
Motorists residing in Las Piñas City who have no access to the Friendship Route — the city’s alternate traffic route — can now avail of the 2003 "Friendship" stickers.

Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar said the Friendship Route, which was opened in 1996, is exclusive for the use of bonafide city residents. The route traverses over 181 streets of 55 private subdivisions.

Aguilar said the year 2000-issued stickers are valid until May 20 only.

The issuance of 2003 stickers will start today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City Hall Taxpayer’s Lobby and on May 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18, or for four consecutive weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).

Residents wishing to avail of the free stickers must bring copies of their car’s original receipt and certificate of registration.

Aguilar added that public utility jeepneys, buses, taxis, school buses, delivery trucks and vans, tricycles and motorcycles are not eligible for issuance of the Friendship stickers.

For more information, the residents can call the media office at 8741440, or the mayor’s office at 5431407.

Aguilar said the issuance of Friendship pass will surely help alleviate heavy traffic particularly along the city’s main thoroughfares.

Statistics from the city’s traffic police department showed that about 150,000 to 200,000 cars are passing along the Zapote-Alabang road everyday to a maximum of 250,000 vehicles during Fridays and Saturdays.

Aguilar emphasized that the Friendship stickers are free of charge. He added that anyone who will engage in selling or tampering of the stickers would be penalized.
