Hostage taker killed in Malabon

-
Police shot and killed a hostage taker in a rescue operation on Maundy Thursday in Malabon City.

Police identified the suspect as Ruben Largo, of 38 Los Martinez street, Barangay San Jose, Navotas. Largo was believed high on drugs during the incident.

Victim Salvacion Tismo of 152 Paradise Village, Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon, remains in serious condition after sustaining a deep stab wound at the right side of her neck. She was rushed to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon for treatment.

PO2 Christopher Rodriguez, on case, said the incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. as the victim, together with a friend, were walking home from a nearby store.

The victim said they first noticed a man trailing them. After reaching the corner of Kaunlaran Extension and C-4 Road, Tonsuya, the suspect suddenly grabbed them, holding them at knife-point. Tismo’s friend was able to free herself from Largo’s clutches. The suspect then dragged the victim to a grassy and dark area by the road.

Having made good her escape, the other girl sought the help of barangay watchmen who reported the incident to the police.

Police immediately responded. The presence of the police apparently made the suspect, who was said to be high on drugs, more agitated and suddenly stabbed Tismo in the neck.

Sensing that the victim’s life was in great danger, police opened fire at the suspect to stop him from inflicting more injuries on the victim.

Largo was later declared dead on arrival at the Pagamutan Bayan ng Malabon due to multiple bullet wounds in the body. Jerry Botial, Pete Laude
