Some are not that honest

Japanese Yoshikawa Toru, 54, asked the driver of the taxi he just hired to stop the vehicle beside a Meralco post because he wanted to urinate.

But before he could finish relieving himself, the unidentified taxi driver sped off with his suitcase containing more than P1 million worth of cash and valuables.

The victim, temporarily living in Meycauayan, Bulacan, tried desperately to catch up with the cab, but to no avail.

Yoshikawa told probers at the Pasig City police headquarters that he flagged down the white taxi cab along E. Rodriguez Avenue in Barangay Ugong, Pasig around 1:30 p.m. the other day.

Before they could get out of the Pasig City proper, the victim said nature called and he couldn’t hold it any longer. He said he did not believe that the driver had bad intentions when he asked him to stop.

Yoshikawa said he has heard stories of honest Filipino taxi drivers who have returned cash and valuables, sometimes worth millions, which were left behind in their vehicles. – Non Alquitran
