Traffic violator runs over enforcer in Makati

- Nikko Dizon -
A traffic violator simply refused to get a ticket for his violation. To solve his problem, he reportedly ran over the apprehending traffic enforcer in Makati City yesterday morning.

Colleagues of John Paul Adriano, of the Makati Public Safety Assistance (MAPSA) were able to apprehend the driver, identified as Joseph Besa. He was immediately turned over to the Makati City police Criminal Investigation Division.

The incident happened along Pasong Tamo Street, in front of Makati Cinema Square, at around 10 a.m., said Joseph Serna, officer-in-charge of MAPSA’s communication section. Adriano flagged down Besa’s Mitsubishi Adventure (XDP 127) for supposedly going on counterflow traffic, Serna said. While Besa pulled over he reportedly refused to hand over his driver’s license to Adriano.

Besa rolled up his window, pinning the traffic enforcer’s right arm and dragging him for a few meters.

After Adriano managed to free himself, he tried to stop the vehicle but Besa ran over him. Adriano’s colleagues immediately came to his aid and apprehended the suspect.

Adriano was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. Appropriate charges would be filed against Besa, who, Serna said also reportedly brandished a knife, which the suspect’s female companion managed to hide.

Last week, another MAPSA traffic enforcer was also run over by a reckless driver.
