Convicted child rapist and former Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo Jalosjos was rushed to a hospital Friday night from the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City after his heart stopped beating.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Ricardo Macala said that Jalosjos complained of chest pains and had difficulty in breathing inside the "kubol" at the NBP Friday afternoon.
He was first brought to the NBP clinic where prison doctors described his condition as "life threatening," Macala said.
Jalosjos was rushed to the Makati Medical Center at around 7 p.m. Friday where he was diagnosed to have suffered from an acute stroke, Macala said.
The prison chief added that the former congressmans blood pressure shot up to 160/110.
Macala said a dozen jail personnel are guarding Jalosjos at the hospital in eight hour shifts, with four guards per shift. Nikko Dizon
