Two drug-crazed men were arrested after they reportedly mauled and stabbed for no apparent reason a barangay youth leader Saturday night in the coastal town of Navotas.
Edgardo Borda, 36, and Wilfredo Baverino, 21, both of Los Martirez street, Barangay San Jose, were apprehended for assaulting Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leader Jayvee Andres, police said. Andres, 17, of Interior Governor Pascual Street in Barangay Sipac sustained bruises in different parts of his body and a stab wound in the stomach.
At around 11:25 p.m., Andres was walking home from a barangay street party and was already near his house when he was allegedly waylaid by the two suspects who were both high on drugs. The duo reportedly took turns in beating Andres and stabbed the boy with an icepick.
Patroling barangay watchmen Hamas Echanova, Jerry Cruz and Danilo Maliksi came to Andres rescue prompting the two suspects to flee to different directions.
The barangay tanods immediately conducted a manhunt against the suspects. At around 1:30 a.m. yesterday, the two suspects were nabbed.
The victim, who was rushed to the Tondo Medical Center (TMC) for treatment, is now out of danger, police said.
The suspects are now locked up at the Navotas police detention cell while charges are being readied against them. Pete Laude
